What is God’s heart behind ‘rest’? Much of the time we equate ‘rest’ as the opposite of ‘work’. And we know that God loves hard work. He has much to say in the proverbs about diligent hands in work as wisdom for provision. Sometimes we think that the opposite of ‘work’ is ‘laziness’ which God also has much to say on equating it with foolishness. However, laziness is not the opposite of work. Laziness is an attitude that crosses both spectrums. One can be working

I have always been interested in American history, but I must confess that my interest was somewhat limited to what I knew of the early American revolutionary heroes. Since moving to Pennsylvania in 2002 I have become aware of one pre-revolutionary hero, William Penn. Before my move from North Carolina all I really knew about William Penn was that he founded the state of Pennsylvania and that many people thought he was the guy on the Quaker oatmeal box.

In John 13:35, Jesus told His disciples that the world would know that we belong to him by the way we love each other.  We want to live and love in a way that leaves know doubt that we belong to Jesus.  One of the practical tools that we have discovered helps us pursue that kind of love is a social covenant.
